CASA GRANDE — A juvenile driver and five people who were in the country without proper documents were taken into custody after a pursuit on Interstate 10 Saturday.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to pull over a vehicle traveling west on I-10 near Picacho for a hazardous moving violation, according to DPS spokesman Bart Graves. The driver of the vehicle, a juvenile, failed to stop and sped off.

Troopers used spike strips to deflate the vehicle’s tires and the vehicle came to a stop near the Sacaton rest area, Graves said. The juvenile driver, a juvenile passenger and five people who were allegedly in the country without proper documents were taken into custody.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of unlawful flight, Graves said.

Graves acknowledged that various Arizona media outlets have reported that other motorists had their tires damaged by the spike strips. Motorists who had tire damage can call 602-223-2000 and ask for the department’s Safety and Loss Unit and reference CAD #210591234.
