CASA GRANDE — The Casa Grande Union High School District will have a new interim superintendent beginning in July after the board approved an agreement Thursday afternoon.

The board approved a one-year Educational Services Inc. staffing agreement for Interim Superintendent Anna Battle.

ESI typically is engaged to pay school employees after they have retired through the state system.

Recently, the board approved entering contract negotiations with Battle to fill the position.

Battle currently serves as the managing director and head of schools for ASU Preparatory Academy, which has various sites, including one in Casa Grande. Prior to that Battle served as an assistant superintendent for the Tempe Union High School District.

Battle has a Bachelor of Arts in special education and teaching from Arizona State University as well as a Master of Education and Doctor of Education from ASU. According to Battle’s LinkedIn page, she has a superintendent certification from the University of Phoenix.

During the meeting, the board also approved the transition from current Superintendent Steve Bebee to Battle as the signer for the district’s bank accounts.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Bebee would resign effective June 30. Bebee entered contract negotiations with the Buckeye Union High School District in March.

“We’re looking very much forward to working with you,” board President Jack Henness said to Battle.

According to Bebee, Battle’s contract is for the 2021-22 school year.
