CASA GRANDE — A senior at Casa Grande Union High School was arrested Thursday after allegedly bringing a gun onto campus.
According to the Casa Grande Police Department, school administrators informed them shortly before noon that they believed Kyren Lee Antone, 18, had a gun in his backpack. The school security and administration reportedly separated him from the rest of the student body.
Upon arrival, police took Antone into custody and allegedly found a Glock handgun in his possession, along with an extended magazine containing multiple rounds of ammunition.
“Currently, there is no evidence there was any display of the weapon, nor any threat to use it,” CGPD wrote in a press release. “It is currently unknown why the student was in possession of the firearm or where and how it was acquired. Additionally, CGUHS and CGPD have no reason to believe any other student was placed in any danger, other than the fact the firearm was on campus and in the student’s backpack.”
Antone was booked into the Pinal County jail, with a charge of misconduct with a weapon forwarded to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office.
“Chief (Mark) McCrory praised the fast response of school officials and staff in responding to this situation and bringing a quick resolution to what could have resulted in a very serious situation,” the release said. “The Casa Grande Police Department continues to maintain a strong working relationship between (Superintendent Anna) Battle, High School Administrators and our department.”
