CASA GRANDE — The driver in a single-vehicle rollover Tuesday afternoon wasn’t injured, but his mother was shocked when she drove by the scene with her school bus loaded with children minutes after the accident.

The vehicle was heading west on Gila Bend Highway about 3 p.m. when the driver lost control and crossed over into oncoming traffic before leaving the highway, hitting a fence and then rolling the car into a drainage ditch.

He was able to crawl out of the vehicle before EMTs from the Casa Grande Fire Department arrived as well as officers from the Casa Grande Police Department.

While the driver was being treated at the scene, a school bus, heading east, stopped and the anxious bus driver told EMTs “I think that is my son’s car.”

EMTs had to calm down the excited bus driver, who remained in her bus. The driver in the rollover then was able to come over to the bus to talk to his mother and give her a hug.

A second school bus was called to pick up the students.

The accident is under investigation by the Casa Grande Police Department. The names of those involved were not available.
