CASA GRANDE — The Casa Grande RC Flyers group has become the first club to win the Academy of Model Aeronautics’s “Triple Crown” of awards.
Out of more than 2,400 clubs across the nation, the Casa Grande club became the first to be named an “Award of Excellence” club, a “Gold Level Leader” club and also the AMA’s “Club of the Month,” a press release from the club said.
The Gold Level Leader club designation was given to the Casa Grande club because of its exceptional airfield facilities, located at 2725 S. Isom Road, and activities offered to the members.
The club holds swap meets, combat dogfights and glider contests and many other activities.
The Award of Excellence was given because of the club’s community service and involvement, promoting model aviation by participating in area school programs and 4-H events as well as raising money for several local charities. The club also opens events for the public’s enjoyment.
The Club Of The Month honor was suggested by an AMA staff member because of all the club has done over its eight years in existence promoting model aviation.
During this month, the AMA is featuring the Casa Grande RC Flyers on its website, in podcasts and also by conducting a 30-minute interview with the club president, Alan Friedman, who organized the club.
“If not for our wonderful board of directors, which includes a physician, pastor, retired engineer and retired pharmacist, among others who make up the seven-member board, none of what we have accomplished would have been possible,” he said.
Casa Grande RC Flyers is an Arizona nonprofit corporation and holds many charity events over the winter season. Activities and membership information are online at www.CasaGrandeRCFlyers.com.
