CASA GRANDE — A Casa Grande man is facing weapons charges after allegedly leaving a gun inside the car he allegedly fled from after a hit-and-run accident.

According to Pinal County Superior Court records, Vincent Gamez, 30, is charged with being a prohibited possessor of a firearm.

At 5:23 a.m. on Nov. 15, Casa Grande Police received a report of a hit and run accident in the 1100 block of North Kadota Avenue. Witnesses reported seeing a black car collide with a parked car and push the parked car into the gate of a home. The driver of the black car then left the scene.

Police investigating the scene found a handgun and a cellphone in the car and traced the car back to Gamez, according to court records. When officers tried to call Gamez, the cellphone in the car started to ring. Gamez allegedly tried to report the car stolen the next day.
