CASA GRANDE — The Pinal Regional SWAT team on Wednesday responded to an incident on Shadow Ridge Drive.
Casa Grande resident Leonel Leal, 47, was taken into custody and charged with making threats, disorderly conduct and aggravated assault, according to Casa Grande Police Department spokesman Thomas Anderson.
The situation began around 5:33 p.m. when officers responded to a call of a man behaving erratically on North Mandeville Lane.
“When officers arrived, the man (Leal) jumped a fence into a backyard on Shadow Ridge Drive, where he lived,” Anderson said.
He later barricaded himself in his home. Another male occupant of the home and some children were allowed to leave.
“Officers negotiated with him,” Anderson said. “When he refused to come out, they felt that he was a danger to himself and others and at that point Pinal Regional SWAT was brought in as they have more resources.”
The Pinal Regional SWAT team and a behavioral health crisis team arrived around 9 p.m.
After more negotiation, Leal exited the house peacefully around 10 p.m. and was taken into custody without further incident, Anderson said.
