CASA GRANDE — A new apartment complex could be in the future for Casa Grande.

Foothills West Inc. is requesting a zoning change from general business to multifamily residential for 2.47 acres north of the Sonic drive-in and Giddens Tire Pros on North Pottebaum Avenue, according to a staff report given to the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

The commission will take up the request at its 6 p.m. meeting on Thursday.

If the zoning change is approved, Foothills wants to build a 25,000-square-foot apartment complex on the site. The complex would include 20 units that would be split among five buildings. Each building would be about 5,000 square feet and each unit in the buildings would be about 1,250 square feet, according to the staff report. The units would have back patios and access to covered parking.

The commission will also consider a series of zoning change requests for a 57.3-acre parcel near Casa Grande Avenue and Kortsen and Silver Reef roads. According to the staff report, the parcel is supposed to be split into three different sections in order to build a mobile home and RV park.

The first section would be 9.9 acres in size and the zoning would change from single-family residential to general business. The second 22.9-acre parcel would be rezoned from single family to mobile home residential and the last 24.9-acre section would be rezoned from single-family residential to planned area development RV park.

The property owner is planning the RV and mobile home park to have 4,500-square-foot lots with a community center for the residents of the park as well as an RV storage area.

The commission will also consider a preliminary plat for the Circle K gas station and store on East Florence Boulevard near Pottebaum Avenue. The request is to include a 266-by-25-foot strip of land that the company bought that sits between the store and a proposed Firestone Tire store next door. The strip of land is to be used to increase parking between the two stores.
