CASA GRANDE — Mimi’s Cafe unexpectedly closed its doors for good over the weekend.

According to the company’s website, the “neighborhood bistro” has 77 locations in 16 states across the United States. According to waitress Amber Ryback, the number of locations is now much lower.

Ryback said the restaurant was facing tough times even prior to the pandemic and closed briefly before opening back up in mid-June.

Ryback had worked as a waitress at Mimi’s Cafe for over two years but has been a waitress for over 20 years.

“I love providing excellent service,” Ryback said. “It’s what I’m meant to do.”

When Ryback finished her shift during the weekend, she was told that there would be a meeting on Sunday for all employees.

During the meeting, the employees were told that the restaurant would be closing its doors permanently.

“We were very sad,” Ryback said. “All of us loved our restaurant.”

According to Ryback, the closure of the longtime fixture at The Promenade at Casa Grande was unexpected and a corporate decision.

According to Executive Administrative Assistant for Mimi’s Cafe Teri Rodriguez, the Casa Grande location is confirmed closed. It is also no longer listed on the company website.

The company has several locations in Arizona listed on the website including Scottsdale, Chandler and Tucson.

“I will miss it with my whole heart,” Ryback said. “It was a great job.”

Ryback is hopeful that she will find a waitressing job elsewhere.

“I would love a restaurant to invite this whole crew back,” Ryback said.
