Lucid Air

Production in Casa Grande on the Lucid Air is expected to begin in 2020.

CASA GRANDE — Forbes announced its Transportation Awards for 2020 with Lucid Air being awarded best product.

“Arriving in 2021, the Lucid Air, an elegant battery-powered sedan from Newark, California-based Lucid Motors, promises to be the first true competitor to Elon Musk’s electric vehicle empire,” Forbes said.

Back in December, Lucid announced that production equipment and processes were underway in Casa Grande ahead of the start of mass production for the Lucid Air in spring of 2021.

“We broke ground on the 590-acre Lucid AMP-1 site in Casa Grande, Arizona, on December 2, 2019, and slightly less than a year later we have completed the first purpose-built EV factory in North America,” said Peter Rawlinson, the CEO and chief technology officer of Lucid Motors, in a press release during December.

“When Peter Rawlinson and his Lucid team first came to Casa Grande, he told me that Lucid was a “technology company first and a car company second,” Mayor Craig McFarland said. “True to his words, the company, Lucid, is now leading a transportation revolution through technology. Their Lucid Air has superior range, power, amenities and is the most beautiful vehicle (EV or not) on the road today.”

“I am not surprised but I am excited for the Lucid Air and their “Forbes Transportation Award: 2020 Best Product,” McFarland said.

A total of four phases are planned through 2028, taking the square footage of the factory from 999,000 to 5.1 million square feet.

“Our city is extremely excited to have Lucid building their extraordinary electric vehicles here in Casa Grande,” McFarland said. “Congratulations to Peter and his entire Lucid team!”
