CASA GRANDE — A Casa Grande attorney has been elected president of the State Bar of Arizona Board of Governors.

Denis M. Fitzgibbons, of Fitzgibbons Law Office, was elected to serve a one-year term beginning July 1.

The State Bar of Arizona is a professional association with about 18,500 attorney members.

Under the direction of the Arizona Supreme Court, the organization’s Board of Governors oversees the policy making and operations of the State Bar.

The 29-member Board of Governors includes four non-attorney members of the public, three at-large members and three district governors appointed by the Arizona Supreme Court and 16 attorney members elected by fellow Bar members.

Fitzgibbons was elected to the board as a Pinal County representative in 2015 and in 2018.

He holds a law degree from Arizona State University. He has been practicing law since 1989, first with Snell & Wilmer in Phoenix as an associate attorney. In 1993, he joined his father’s law practice in Casa Grande along with his brother, David A. Fitzgibbons III.

He currently serves as the co-managing partner at Fitzgibbons Law Office.

Fitzgibbons practices municipal law and serves as the attorney for the cities of Coolidge and Maricopa.

His practice also focuses on:

  • Business law
  • Commercial litigation

  • Estate planning and
  • Probate and trust administration

His professional memberships include the American Bar Association, past president of the Pinal County Bar Association; Maricopa County Bar Association and the American Arbitration Association.

Fitzgibbons was born in Estherville, Iowa, and graduated from Casa Grande Union High School. During his high school years, he was elected Arizona Boys State governor and was an all-region basketball and football player.

In 1986, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in New York City. In college, he was a three-year varsity football player.

He is married to Casa Grande City Councilwoman Lisa Navarro Fitzgibbons. The couple has three children — Ashley, Molly and Grace — who have all graduated from CGUHS. In May, Ashley graduated from ASU Law School.

Fitzgibbons’ community involvement includes work with the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson; Pinal and Gila Counties Legal Aid Society; past president of the Pinal Alliance for Economic Growth; Boys & Girls Clubs of the Casa Grande Valley; and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School.
