SAN TAN VALLEY — Pinal County Sheriff's Office deputies shot and killed a man during a domestic violence response in San Tan Valley early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home on West White Canyon Road at 1:30 a.m. regarding a domestic violence incident between a husband and wife.
When deputies entered the home, the man, identified as Efren Gomez, 80, was allegedly stabbing himself with a knife and scissors. He allegedly became aggressive and lunged at deputies with the scissors.
According to PCSO, a deputy was forced to use deadly force and shoot Gomez. Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 74-year-old woman was transported to a nearby hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries from the incident.
The incident is under investigation.
