FLORENCE — A Florence man was killed in a collision on State Route 79 Wednesday after he reportedly turned in front of an on-coming pickup truck, authorities said.
Kenneth Taylor, 62, was driving eastbound on Arizona Farms Road in his Mercedes SUV when he failed to yield at a stop sign and turned northbound onto SR 79, said Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves. The SUV crossed in front of and collided with a Ford F-250 pickup truck which was traveling southbound on SR 79 causing a T-bone style accident.
Taylor was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck had non life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed between mileposts 138 and 150 for about three hours while the crash was investigated.
