CASA BLANCA — Another fatal crash closed eastbound Interstate 10 on the Gila River Indian Community during the beginning of the Wednesday morning commute.
Traffic exited eastbound I-10 at Riggs Road and went back on the freeway via State Route 587, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The state Department of Public Safety said the crash just after 5 a.m. involved a single-vehicle rollover. Gila River Police are investigating the crash.
Interstate 10 reopened about 7:50 a.m. but Gila River Police stated that delays could still be expected as traffic remained very slow in the area.
This is the second fatal rollover this week on the stretch of I-10 between Casa Grande and Chandler.
On Monday a 41-year-old Casa Grande man was killed in a rollover on I-10 near Riggs Road that closed the freeway for hours.
Anthony Kittrell of Casa Grande was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a DPS spokesman.
The 23-mile stretch of freeway is the only part of the interstate between Phoenix and Tucson that is two lanes in both directions. The state is currently conducting a feasibility study on adding an additional lane in each direction.
