PHOENIX – A closure of eastbound Interstate 10 in west Phoenix is among freeway restrictions scheduled for improvement projects this weekend. Drivers should allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes and focus on safe driving while the following restrictions are in place:
- Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between 83rd and 51st avenues in west Phoenix from 9 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for construction of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange. Southbound Loop 101 ramp to eastbound I-10 also closed. Southbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Thomas Road and eastbound I-10 on-ramps at 99th and 91st avenues closed. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time and consider exiting well ahead of closure and using alternate routes. Eastbound Thomas and McDowell roads as well as Van Buren Street are local detour routes. Expect heavy traffic. Note: Westbound I-10 HOV lane also closed between 51st and 83rd avenues from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday for construction vehicle access.
- U.S. 60 narrowed to one lane in both directions between Tomahawk Road and milepost 208 (near El Camino Viejo) from 10 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday for pavement improvements. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time and use caution in work zones.
- Southbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Elliot Road and southbound off-ramp at Warner Road closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for widening project. DETOUR: Use other nearby ramps, including southbound on-ramp at Warner Road or southbound off-ramps at Elliot Road or Chandler Boulevard.
