ARIZONA CITY — After two years of renovations, the Arizona City Golf Course reopened at the beginning of 2022 in time to host the Arizona City Chamber of Commerce’s annual golf tournament, and a year later they’re expecting even bigger things.
Although it was the first time the event was held since 2019, it saw both Arizona City residents and people from surrounding areas come out to play, with over 100 participants hoping to walk away with a tournament championship.
With final preparations being made for the 2023 version, the chamber board is confident that they can continue the momentum that was built in last year’s event.
Newly named president of the Arizona City Chamber of Commerce Sierra Tripp has served as the main organizer for the event, one of the first large tasks she has taken on since becoming president in October.
Tripp noted that the chamber began planning for the event in June, hoping the extra preparation would yield more participants and vendors for the Saturday, March 4, event.
“Last year, the tournament was put together in about a month, so we started advertising for the event earlier,” she said. “We have been working on getting everything set for the event. We finally got our beer distributor set with Crescent Crown, who has been a longtime supporter of the chamber. It’s super exciting.”
In an attempt to make registering for the event simpler, Tripp said that the chamber is developing a website that participants can go to in order to pay their entrance fee and get more information about the tournament.
Additionally, the chamber will be running its first-ever silent auction during the tournament, with many local businesses pitching in to auction off prizes for the event.
Tripp described the golf tournament as the chamber’s “main event,” saying that this will be the biggest funding event for the chamber. She detailed how she hopes that the success of last year’s function will carry over into the 2023 rendition.
“Last year we had a lot of prizes, and everyone I spoke to said that they had a great time,” she said. “I’m banking on the fact that people here really love the golf course and are going to want to come back. We are advertising in Casa Grande and Eloy, so hopefully, we will get a few more people to come out from those areas.”
Tripp said she is thankful that the community continues to support the chamber in more ways than one. She mentioned that she is confident that the community will be ready to get back on the links again and come together for the chamber’s new marquee event.
“As a community, we always help each other,” she said. “If people want to volunteer or donate, we are always open to that opportunity. The golf course is such a big part of the community, so we want to support the community through this tournament.”
