ARIZONA CITY — The annual July 3 celebration in Arizona City has been rescheduled.
According to a press release posted on the Arizona City Fire District’s Facebook page, the decision was made due to the increased numbers of positive COVID-19 cases along with the increasing number of wildfires.
The fire district and the Arizona City Fire District Association have held the fireworks display in past years.
“We could not in good faith hold the event,” the press release stated. “The health and well-being of our community is our highest priority. After numerous discussions and statistically weighing the risks versus benefits of the celebration, it was the collective decision of the boards to reschedule the celebration and fireworks for a later date. We understand and wholeheartedly feel now more than ever a sense of community is needed.”
The boards for the fire district and district association plan to hold the celebration and fireworks at the end of the summer and will announce the date when it is determined there are fewer health risks as well as decreased fire risks.
