COOLIDGE — For the first time in the history of Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology, more than 800 students are enrolled at the career and technical education school’s main campus.

Enrollment between the 2018-19 and the 2019-20 school year grew by 54 students, Superintendent Mike Glover told the Governing Board on Aug. 7 at the regularly scheduled CAVIT board meeting.

“As a school, I think the first goal is to have enrollment that exceeds your enrollment from last year,” Glover said. “I never thought we’d have 800 here on our central campus.”

The number of students currently attending CAVIT totals 815 — a historical high for the CTE central campus that got its start in 2008. Last school year, CAVIT enrollment topped out at 761.

CAVIT students come from different high schools in Pinal County.

Although school districts are partnered up with CAVIT to provide some CTE programs at their school sites, the central campus offers students an opportunity to learn about careers like medical assisting, dental assisting, law enforcement and fire science.

In light of the increased enrollment, Glover indicated that he is hoping that additional recruitment efforts will bring the number of students attending CAVIT to 850 in the coming school years.
