APACHE JUNCTION — An Apache Junction man stopped by police for a traffic violation is facing assault charges after he allegedly fought with a police officer.
According to Pinal County Superior Court records, Eric P. Menu, 61, is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and failure to stop when commanded by a law enforcement officer.
According to court records, an Apache Junction Police officer pulled Menu’s vehicle over around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 near Superstition Boulevard and Goldfield Road for a stop sign violation.
When the officer approached the vehicle, Menu allegedly grabbed at the officer’s carrier vest near the area where the officer normally carries his stun gun. The officer was able to fend off Menu, but Menu refused his commands to exit the vehicle.
Menu then allegedly attempted to head-butt the officer through the open window of the vehicle. The officer was able to take Menu to the ground, where he was taken into custody.
