APACHE JUNCTION – A Mesa woman is facing child abuse charges after allegedly leaving her child in the car while she was drinking in an Apache Junction bar.
According to Pinal County Superior Court records, Shaylee S. Russell, 21, is facing one count of child abuse.
At 12:33 a.m. on Dec. 26, Apache Junction Police officers responded to a call of a child crying in a blue Ford Explorer in a parking lot in front of a bar in the 2300 block of South Coconino Drive. Officers found the 1-year-old child and noted that the temperature at the time was about 45 to 50 degrees.
Officers allegedly found Russell and a friend inside the bar consuming alcohol. Witnesses told officers that Russell and her friend had been in the bar about 25 to 45 minutes. Russell allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.051 according to a portable breath test.
She was booked into the Pinal County Jail.
