APACHE JUNCTION — A 44-year-old man was arrested for drug possession after he was allegedly spotted in a parked vehicle with his "pants down," police said.

Joe Rodriguez, 44, of Vernon was spotted by a park attendant at 5:47 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Apache Junction Rodeo Grounds performing a lewd act, according to an Apache Junction Police Department report.

“I asked Joe (Rodriguez) what he was doing trespassing in the rodeo grounds, to which he stated he was waiting for someone to let him go take a shower. I asked Joe why he had his pants down in his vehicle when contacted by the park attendant, to which Joe stated he was masturbating,” an AJPD officer wrote in the probable cause statement.

The officer asked Rodriguez if he had anything illegal on him and he said no, but he later said he did have marijuana in the vehicle. He did not possess a medical marijuana card.

“After the marijuana was located, Joe was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana. Methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia was also located inside Joe's vehicle,” the officer wrote.

He was transported to the Pinal County Adult Detention Center and booked for possession of a dangerous drug, possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He remains in custody pending the posting of a $2,500 secured bond. He is to appear in Superior Court Feb. 18 for a preliminary hearing.
