FLORENCE — A 30-year-old Apache Junction woman is accused of assaulting a deputy as she was being arrested in San Tan Valley.
On Oct. 20 Pinal County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter, who later was identified as Jaclyn Simcox, whom security had chased out of the door.
When deputies arrived they saw Simcox running from a fast-food restaurant located in the store’s parking lot and gave her commands to stop.
According to the police report, she made eye contact with a deputy and kept running.
A deputy was later able to catch her in the median of a busy street, but when he grabbed onto her left shoulder she turned with her arm, scratching the deputy’s face.
Simcox admitted to deputies she had previously been told to leave the store under a trespassing order.
The deputy who apprehended Simcox said he was in fear while running across the street in heavy traffic to catch her.
Simcox has been charged with aggravated assault, burglary in the second degree and two counts of resisting arrest.
